Tesla Model Y

On August 18, Tesla just shortened the wait times for all available models in China.

The Model Y is powered by BYD batteries with a capacity of 55-kilowatt hours and a range of 440 kilometers, according to a German media report.

From January to July, the Tesla Model Y remained at the top of the premium SUV sales rankings.

Tesla's China-made Model Y now comes standard with an extra far-side airbag across the lineup, possibly as part of a recent production line upgrade at the Shanghai plant.

Expected delivery dates for the rear-wheel drive Model Y in China have been shortened by two weeks, while both the Model 3 Performance and Model Y Performance have been extended by four weeks.

Shanghai, home of Tesla's factory in China, is the city where the Model 3 and Model Y are selling the most.

After all the upgrades are completed, the annual production capacity of Tesla Giga Shanghai will be expanded to about 1.1-1.2 million units, according to local media.

Tesla Model Y retail sales in China in June were 52,150 units, well above the second place BYD Song's 31,787 units.

Tesla is currently offering two versions of the Model 3 in China as well as three versions of the Model Y. The pricing and expected delivery dates for all models except the Model Y Long Range remain unchanged.

The first Tesla model to use BYD batteries will be the Model Y, with mass supply set to happen as early as next year, according to local media.
