A two-day shutdown at Giga Shanghai would mean a loss of production of about 4,000 units.

The vehicles are supposed to be produced at Tesla's Fremont plant in the US and will probably be used for testing and validation in China, according to a prominent auto blogger.

Tesla's expansion plans for its existing plant in Shanghai aim to take capacity to about 1 million vehicles this year, Reuters reported.

Tesla sold 59,845 China-made vehicles in January, of which 40,499 were exported.

The project, with a total floor area of about 350,000 square meters, will be completed and operational within one year.

Tesla Giga Shanghai's capacity was 450,000 units last year and will see a huge increase after April, local media said.

CATL's current facility near Tesla's Giga Shanghai is primarily being used to assemble battery modules, while a new facility is under construction, according to local media.

Tesla delivered about 321,000 vehicles in China in 2021, with Model Y at 200,100 vehicles, or 62.3 percent of the total.

The plant is in the capacity ramp-up phase and is already at approximately 60 percent of its design capacity.
