In a best-case scenario Giga Shanghai will reach pre-Covid outbreak capacity levels by mid-May, according to TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Only some employees are scheduled to return in the first "closed loop," which could last 10 to 20 days, according to a Bloomberg report.

Tesla Giga Shanghai's plan to resume production has been approved by the local government, but is still subject to change, according to Reuters.

Earlier today, there were rumors that Tesla replied to US investors that the Shanghai factory could resume work in mid-May at the earliest and the parts supply chain could be restored by then.

To date, Tesla has opened more than 1,100 Supercharger stations in the Chinese mainland, including more than 8,500 Superchargers.

Tesla's official website in China has opened a reservation page for the Roadster, with interested consumers required to pay a deposit of RMB 332,000 ($52,120).

In China's premium SUV market, Model Y sales of 39,730 units in March were 3.1 times the sales of the Mercedes-Benz GLC.

Production at Giga Shanghai was suspended for two days on March 16 and 17 due to Covid controls, and has been suspended again since March 28.

Tesla's Giga Shanghai has been unable to get parts to keep its production line running since late last month because of a lack of special passes for truck drivers amid Shanghai's lockdown.
