CATL Plant

CATL aims to build a plant in North America capable of producing up to 80 GWh of batteries a year and eventually employing up to 10,000 workers, according to Bloomberg.

The project, with a total floor area of about 350,000 square meters, will be completed and operational within one year.

CATL's current facility near Tesla's Giga Shanghai is primarily being used to assemble battery modules, while a new facility is under construction, according to local media.

The plant is in the capacity ramp-up phase and is already at approximately 60 percent of its design capacity.

This is the seventh to tenth phase of CATL's Yibin manufacturing base, with a planned site area of approximately 2.13 million square meters.

CATL has looked at two locations in western Poland and most of the products produced at the plant would be shipped to Germany, where Tesla has a factory, according to Polish media.

The production site is CATL's largest single project in the world to date, with a planned annual capacity comparable to China's first 11 months of installed capacity.

The site is expected to make it easier to supply power cells to Tesla.

CTP, CATL's next-generation technology, was used in the 75-kWh battery pack announced by Nio in late September.

The project has a planned site area of about 1,300 mu (870,000 square meters).
