Xpeng P5

The Xpeng P5 was the world's first production car to feature LiDAR when it went on sale on September 15, 2021, and now it's eliminating the component.

Xpeng has cut the SKUs of the P7, P5 and G3i in half, seemingly hoping to boost declining sales by making it easier for consumers to choose.

City NGP is only available to users in Guangzhou for now, and Xpeng says it will work to make the feature available in more cities as soon as possible.

The setback regarding the P5 does not affect Xpeng's long-term strategy in Europe, where it is moving to encourage local consumers to pre-order the P7 sedan.

Xpeng has opened a direct experience store in Denmark, its third in Europe after Stockholm, Sweden and The Hague, Netherlands.

Xpeng has started to push the latest version of Xmart OS 3.1.0 to all P5 vehicles, bringing VPA-L, the first LiDAR-enabled feature that allows memory parking across floors.

Consumers in Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden can now begin pre-ordering the P5 sedan, with customers in the Netherlands being able to test drive the model starting in April.

Xpeng said the extremely tight supply of key components, including lithium iron phosphate batteries, has created great uncertainty in the production of some models.

Users will be able to get XPILOT assisted driving software for free if they choose to get their vehicles delivered first and get the radars installed after the end of March next year.

A severe shortage of radar chips is affecting Xpeng's new vehicle deliveries, and it's likely to deliver models missing some millimeter-wave radars.
