CATL, BYD refuse to build teams and factories in the US dedicated to catering to Apple, Reuters reports.

Tesla said it is switching to LFP batteries for standard range vehicles globally, and BYD, which already has a factory in the US, has a better chance of winning as a supplier.

In addition to the rapid growth in new energy vehicle production, BYD is also accelerating its expansion in the power battery sector.

BYD has never told the media that it will supply "blade batteries" to Tesla, nor has it said that the "blade batteries" will be used in the Model Y, ifeng.com quoted the company as saying on Wednesday.

Media reports that BYD will supply "blade battery" to Tesla are true, and the first model could be the Model Y, Chinese technology website mydrivers.com said Friday, citing an unnamed BYD insider.

BYD will supply its "blade battery" to Tesla in the second quarter of next year, local Chinese media cls.cn said Thursday, citing multiple sources familiar with the matter.

The blade battery, a power cell that BYD claims won't catch fire, was first used in its flagship Han EV model. It is now available in all BYD's all-electric models.

BYD, the government of Changchun City in northeast China's Jilin Province and FAW Group signed an agreement on Wednesday for the new energy vehicle maker to establish a power battery production base in Changchun.

The first and second phases of BYD's power battery production base will have a combined annual capacity of 35GWh at full capacity.

Wang Chuanfu, BYD's founder and chairman of the board, said the company's electric vehicle models will all use blade batteries, and all batteries will be tested with pinpricks.
