CATL is collaborating on the development of Condensed Battery for civilian electric aircrafts, and the battery for EVs will have mass production capability this year.

The "U" type structure allows the battery to reduce structural component resistance by 50 percent, achieve an energy density of 300 Wh/kg, and support fast charging beyond 6C, CALB said.

The battery is expected to be available in production models in 2023, including an SUV and a coupe that will be in production in October next year.

The battery allows for a 50 percent reduction in the number of cells and a 47 percent reduction in the number of Pack parts, resulting in a 30 percent increase in productivity, according to Eve Energy.

The MTB technology integrates the battery module directly into the vehicle's bracket or chassis, allowing for a 40 percent increase in battery system utilization and a 10 percent weight reduction.

Condensed battery cells have features including high safety, reliability and good cycle life, said Wu Kai, CATL's chief scientist.

The M3P battery is based on a new material system developed by CATL and has a higher energy density than LFP batteries and a lower cost than ternary batteries.

The cells have an energy density of 350-400 Wh/kg and has now successfully passed tests including pin prick and 200°C hot box tests, Svolt Energy said.

This follows reports that CATL plans to mass-produce LMFP battery, which its chairman mentioned in February as the M3P battery, within this year.

The battery's energy density is 15-20 percent higher than that of lithium iron phosphate batteries, but there is little difference in the material costs, according to local media.
