Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) sub-brand Onvo has launched the L80, a large five-seat electric SUV (sport utility vehicle), further expanding its lineup of family-oriented models.

Onvo officially rolled out the L80 at an event in Hefei, Anhui province, on Friday. Deliveries of the model will begin tomorrow, continuing Nio Inc's fast-paced operational approach.

The final starting price of the Onvo L80, including an 85-kWh battery pack, is 242,800 yuan ($35,650), slightly down 1.22% from its pre-sales price.

If consumers choose to purchase the car under the BaaS (battery as a service) model, the starting price drops to 156,800 yuan, though they will need to pay a monthly battery rental fee.

Nio founder, chairman, and CEO William Li said at today's launch event that with this pricing, the company is absorbing the pressure from rising raw material costs, including memory chips and metals.

The new vehicle comes in three trims — Pro, Max+, and Ultra+ — providing flexible options for buyers with different budgets and smart-driving needs.

The Pro version, priced at 242,800 yuan, is a pure-vision model equipped with Nvidia's Orin X smart driving chip to support assisted driving features.

The Max+ and Ultra+ versions, priced at 259,800 yuan and 279,800 yuan respectively, are equipped with high-precision LiDAR and feature Nio's in-house developed Shenji NX9031 smart driving chip.

These two higher-trim models are equipped with the Nio World Model assisted driving system to enhance the driving experience, a solution that is also standard on the more premium main Nio brand models.

Onvo's strategy for the L80 continues the approach used for the updated L90 three-row SUV, and the upcoming updated L60 will adopt a similar strategy to offer consumers more flexible choices.

The Onvo L80 comes standard across all trims with a 900-volt high-voltage architecture, an 85-kWh ternary lithium battery pack, and an air suspension system.

Both the Pro and Max+ are rear-wheel-drive models with a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 5.7 seconds, while the Ultra+ is an all-wheel-drive model capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds.

Onvo specifically highlighted the L80's significant advantages in space utilization and energy consumption to attract more family users.

Through a lightweight vehicle design, the model achieves an energy consumption of 14.3 kWh per 100 kilometers, the lowest in its class, Li said at the launch event.

The vehicle features a 240-liter electric frunk and a 1,200-liter trunk, offering a maximum total storage space of up to 2,840 liters.

Users who lock in their orders before May 31 can enjoy initial purchase benefits worth over 57,000 yuan in total, including limited-time option discounts.

Existing owners of Nio, Onvo, and Firefly brand vehicles will also receive additional reward points when repurchasing this new model, a move aimed at stimulating trade-in demand.

Alongside the intensive roll-out of new products, Nio Inc is also accelerating the expansion of its charging and swapping infrastructure. Li reiterated at today's event that the company will add 1,000 battery swap stations in China this year, all of which will be accessible to Onvo.

Onvo aims to have more than 3,300 battery swap stations available to the brand by the end of this year.

Currently, Nio has 3,847 battery swap stations in China, of which 2,495 are available to Onvo models.

Today marks the second anniversary of the Onvo brand's launch, and the brand is working to boost sales through intensive product releases.

Last month, the updated L90 hit the market. The updated L60 five-seater SUV will begin pre-sales at the Shenzhen Auto Show later this month.

In 2025 — its first full year of deliveries — Onvo delivered 107,808 vehicles, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

In the first four months of this year, the brand delivered 18,691 vehicles, down 2.55% year-on-year.

To break through industry headwinds, Nio plans to concentrate resources in the second quarter to ensure the smooth launch of the Nio ES9 and Onvo L80.
