Nio Inc sub-brand Onvo is expanding its product lineup with a new model, opening pre-sales for the Onvo L80 large five-seat SUV ahead of its official launch on May 15.

Nio founder, chairman and CEO William Li detailed the technical specifications of the L80 at an event on Tuesday, announcing a starting pre-sales price of 245,800 yuan ($35,940) including the battery pack.

The price is 20,000 yuan, or 7.52%, lower than the 265,800 yuan starting price of the 2026 three-row L90 electric SUV launched last week.

Potential buyers can already view the new model in person, as Onvo L80 display cars have arrived at the brand's stores across China.

The Onvo L80 will officially open for user test drives on May 1, available at stores nationwide. Its official launch will take place on May 15, marking the second anniversary of the Onvo brand's official release.

The five-seat SUV measures 5,145 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width and 1,786 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,110 mm.

The new model is a key component of Nio's strategy to navigate industry headwinds and maintain delivery growth, with Onvo specifically highlighting the L80's significant advantages in space utilization.

The vehicle boasts up to 2,840 liters of total storage space, billed as the five-seat SUV with the largest cargo capacity in China, designed to meet the needs of family travel and outdoor camping.

On the technical route for smart driving, the L80 continues the dual-track strategy Onvo adopted for the updated L90, offering both a high-end version equipped with LiDAR and a pure-vision option without LiDAR.

The LiDAR version will be powered by Nio's in-house developed Shenji NX9031 assisted driving chip, combined with the Nio World Model assisted driving software to enhance the driving and parking experience.

The pure-vision version of the model will feature Nvidia's Orin X chip, a product strategy that provides more flexible options for consumers with different budgets and smart driving needs.

Built on a 900-volt high-voltage architecture, the Onvo L80 will be available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions.

Its rear-wheel drive version has a maximum motor power of 340 kW and a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 5.9 seconds; the four-wheel drive version features front and rear motors with maximum powers of 100 kW and 340 kW respectively, achieving a 0-100 km/h time of 4.7 seconds.

Consumers can currently place pre-orders through Onvo's official channels, and those who pay a 1,000 yuan deposit before the official launch can enjoy a 3,000 yuan discount on the purchase price.

Existing owners of the Nio, Onvo, and Firefly brands will also receive additional reward points when repurchasing this new model, further stimulating internal replacement demand across the brands.

Nio Inc is relying on an intensive schedule of new product launches to counter industry headwinds and maintain steady growth in delivery volumes.

Li said earlier this month that the Onvo L80 and the upcoming Nio ES9 flagship SUV are expected to drive steady growth in deliveries for May and June.
