In China's premium SUV market, Model Y sales of 39,730 units in March were 3.1 times the sales of the Mercedes-Benz GLC.

China's auto industry is facing higher costs and a lack of consumer momentum, but production and sales of NEVs have continued their rapid growth, the CAAM said.

Geely Group sold 11,900 BEVs including battery swap-enabled models in March, up 538 percent from 1,864 in the same month last year.

Seres, Sokon's brand that partners with Huawei, sold 3,160 units in March, up 1,310.71 percent year-on-year.
