Sales of major Chinese automakers' NEVs grew at a rapid pace in June, with retail sales expected to approach 500,000 units, the CPCA said.

Tesla's Shanghai plant produced 33,544 vehicles in May, with 22,340 of those vehicles being exported.

The Nio ET7 ranked ninth in China's top premium sedan sales in May, moving up one spot from its first full delivery month in April.

China's NEV industry has been hit by the current epidemic, but the year-on-year improvement has exceeded expectations, the CPCA said.

Although some companies in Shanghai and surrounding cities are starting to resume production, it will be difficult to return to normal levels by the end of May, the CPCA said.

The recent decline in income for some residents following the Covid outbreak has led to an impact on consumption, and the contraction in demand has trickled down to the auto market, the CPCA said.

China's NEV supply is expected to improve significantly in May compared to April, with retail sales of NEVs expected to show high growth compared to April, the CPCA said.

Tesla Model Y sales in China were 960 units in April, down 98 percent from 39,730 units in March.

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class was No. 1 with 10,648 units sold, but down 34.1 percent from a year ago.

The penetration of NEVs in wholesale sales in April was 29.6 percent, up from 25.1 percent in March.
