- The L90 will begin pre-sales in early July, with display vehicles available at all Onvo stores, according to Onvo president Shen Fei.
- The L90 will be the first model launched under Shen Fei, who replaced Alan Ai in April as Onvo president.
Nio (NYSE: NIO) sub-brand Onvo will begin pre-sales of its flagship electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) L90 next month, as the official launch draws nearer.
Onvo president Shen Fei mentioned the plan today when he shared a Weibo post by Lei Jun, founder, chairman, and CEO of Xiaomi (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY), regarding the Xiaomi YU7 SUV.
"Wishing Xiaomi YU7 a successful launch! The Onvo L90 is positioned as a flagship SUV with a spacious three-row interior. The car will arrive at all stores and begin pre-sales in early July," Shen wrote.
The L90 will be the first model launched by Shen since he replaced Alan Ai as Onvo president in April. Onvo's current sole model, the L60, was launched under Ai's lead.
It remains unclear whether Onvo will hold a launch event for the L90's pre-sales, as other EV manufacturers have done.
Leveraging Nio's decade of technical innovation in pure electric vehicles and its nationwide high-density charging and battery swap network, the Onvo L90 achieves a flagship SUV's authentic design, he said.
Compared to current large three-row SUVs on the market, the L90 can accommodate passengers and a lot of luggage, enabling users to achieve spatial freedom, Shen said.
Nio Power operates battery swap stations on China's highways at an average interval of 180 kilometers, providing charging efficiency equivalent to 20C, he said.
The L90 also features a powerful 440 kW all-wheel-drive system, delivering a smooth and confident driving experience, Shen added.
Earlier today, Xiaomi's EV unit, Xiaomi EV, announced on Weibo that the YU7 will be officially launched on June 26, with an event starting at 7:00 pm that evening.
The YU7 is set to be one of the most important models in China's EV market this year, with the potential to reshape the SUV market and its main competitor being Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA) hot-selling Model Y.
The Xiaomi SUV is expected to become a pricing benchmark for mainstream mid-to-high-end SUVs in China, similar to the Tesla Model Y.
The pricing for the YU7 is expected to be revealed at its launch event, and other EV manufacturers may need to consider the YU7's pricing when setting prices for their upcoming new models.
Onvo will only offer SUV models in the foreseeable future, targeting family-oriented vehicle needs. It launched its first model, the L60, on September 19, 2024, a five-seat mid-size SUV.
The L90 is set to officially launch in the third quarter, Nio management previously said.
Additionally, Onvo will launch the L80 in the fourth quarter, another large SUV.
A regulatory filing last Friday indicated that the L80 will be a five-seat version of the L90.
