- Leapmotor will launch the updated C16 SUV later today.
Leapmotor (HKG: 9863) has reached a cumulative delivery volume of 800,000 vehicles, marking a milestone for the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) startup.
The company announced the milestone on Weibo today and emphasized that the 2026 C16 SUV (sport utility vehicle) will be officially launched in a few hours.
The milestone means that Leapmotor has delivered 26,794 vehicles so far this month, considering its cumulative delivery volume of 773,206 vehicles as of the end of May, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
Leapmotor will kick off the launch event for the 2026 C16 at 2:00 pm Beijing Time on Wednesday, having previously said that the SUV will feature over 70 major upgrades, including extended range and increased interior space.
The C16 was initially launched on June 28, 2024, as a six-seat model. Leapmotor will introduce five-seat variants for the updated C16 to cater to a broader range of customer needs.
Founded in 2015, Leapmotor is one of China's earliest new automotive startups. The company initially offered only battery electric vehicle (BEV) models but launched its first extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) in March 2023.
Leapmotor currently sells the T03, B10, C01, C10, C11, and C16 models in China. Except for the T03 and B10, which are only available as BEV variants, all other models also offer EREV variants.
The company primarily targets the mid-to-low-end market and offers vehicles at prices significantly lower than Li Auto's (NASDAQ: LI) similar-sized models.
For example, the older C16 has a length of 4,915 mm and a wheelbase of 2,825 mm, with the EREV variant starting at RMB 155,800.
In comparison, Li Auto's cheapest model, the Li L6 EREV, has a length of 4,925 mm and a wheelbase of 2,920 mm, with a starting price of RMB 249,800.
Leapmotor delivered 45,067 vehicles in May, surpassing the previous record of 42,517 units in December 2024, representing a year-on-year increase of 148.10 percent and a month-on-month increase of 9.82 percent.
From January to May, Leapmotor delivered 173,658 vehicles, marking a year-on-year increase of 160.83 percent, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
