BYD (HKG: 1211) officially launched the 2026 Seagull in China on Monday, marking the first time LiDAR technology has entered the A00-class mini electric vehicle (EV) market.
The new model maintains a highly competitive pricing strategy, with an official guide price ranging from 69,900 yuan ($10,290) to 85,900 yuan.
Consumers can opt for the God's Eye B advanced driver assistance system equipped with LiDAR, an optional package exclusively available for the 305 km Freedom Edition and the 405 km Flying Edition.
With the LiDAR option, the prices of these two specific trims rise to 90,900 yuan and 97,900 yuan, respectively, bringing the threshold for advanced smart driving hardware below 100,000 yuan.
The God's Eye B system supports city navigation assist functions. The vehicle can autonomously recognize traffic lights and read the countdown, and can smoothly handle complex road conditions such as roundabouts and full-scenario detours, according to BYD.
The 2026 Seagull measures 3,780 mm in length, 1,715 mm in width, and 1,540 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,500 mm.
The powertrain continues to use an electric motor with a maximum power of 55 kW, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 50 km/h in 4.9 seconds.
The new car offers two battery pack options with different capacities: 30.08 kWh and 38.88 kWh. These two battery configurations correspond to ranges of 305 km and 405 km, respectively.
The interior features a newly added beige color scheme and an upgraded 12.8-inch floating center console screen. Other newly added comfort features include 50W wireless phone charging and automatic air conditioning.
The Seagull is a core pillar product of BYD's Ocean lineup. The model achieved a cumulative sales volume of 529,537 units throughout 2025, making it one of the best-selling models in the Chinese market.
Introducing LiDAR to entry-level models helps BYD maintain its edge in the fierce price war. This will also force competitors to re-evaluate the intelligent configurations of their affordable products.
