Nio's (NYSE: NIO) highest-priced model, the ET9, maintained relatively strong delivery volumes in May, its second full month of deliveries.
The executive flagship sedan delivered 682 units in May, bringing the combined deliveries over the past two months to 1,492 units, according to data shared by local automotive media outlet Yiche from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
This is a solid performance for a luxury sedan developed by a local Chinese automaker, despite a 15.80 percent decrease from the 810 units delivered in April.
The ET9 was officially launched at Nio Day 2024 on December 21, 2024, with a starting price of RMB 788,000 ($109,730) including the battery pack, which is 2.3 times the RMB 338,000 price of Nio brand's best-selling ES6 SUV (sport utility vehicle).
The ET9 incorporates many of Nio's latest technologies, including its in-house developed Shenji NX9031 autonomous driving chip and SkyRide chassis. Deliveries began on March 29.
Nio Inc delivered 23,231 vehicles in May, a year-on-year increase of 13.08 percent but a 2.80 percent decrease from April, according to data released earlier this month.
This delivery volume includes 13,270 units from Nio's main brand, 6,281 units from Onvo, and 3,680 units from Firefly.
Onvo and Firefly currently each have only one model available for sale, the Onvo L60 and Firefly, respectively.
The ET9 contributed 2.94 percent to Nio Inc's monthly deliveries in May, according to calculations by CnEVPost.
The ES6 remains the top-selling Nio-brand model, with 5,479 units delivered in May, accounting for 23.58 percent of Nio Inc's monthly deliveries. This represents a year-on-year decline of 32.31 percent and a month-on-month decline of 20.20 percent.
From January to May, the ES6 delivered 21,495 units, a year-on-year decline of 11.37 percent, contributing 24.09 percent of Nio Inc's monthly deliveries.
Nio launched the updated ES6 and EC6 coupe SUV on May 16, with deliveries beginning on May 20.
On May 25, Nio launched the updated ET5 sedan and ET5T wagon, with deliveries beginning on May 27.
The ET5T delivered 2,923 units in May, making it the second-highest delivering Nio brand model, contributing 12.58 percent of Nio Inc's monthly deliveries. This month's deliveries decreased by 38.91 percent year-on-year and down by 51.40 percent compared to April.
From January to May, the ET5T delivered 16,391 units, representing a year-on-year increase of 5.04 percent.
The EC6 delivered 2,026 units in May, accounting for 8.72 percent of Nio Inc's monthly deliveries. Deliveries for the month decreased by 25.84 percent year-on-year and by 16.86 percent compared to April.
From January to May, EC6 delivered 8,789 units, a year-on-year decrease of 4.67 percent.
In May, the ET5 delivered 1,564 units, accounting for 6.73 percent of Nio Inc's monthly deliveries. Deliveries for the month decreased by 37.36 percent year-on-year and down by 22.38 percent compared to April.
From January to May, the ET5 delivered 6,848 units, a year-on-year decrease of 28.47 percent.
The ES8 SUV delivered 292 units in May, accounting for 1.26 percent of Nio Inc's monthly deliveries. Deliveries for the month decreased by 68.84 percent year-on-year and down by 45.83 percent compared to April.
The third-generation ES8 will debut in the fourth quarter, Nio founder, chairman, and CEO William Li said on the first day of the Shanghai auto show on April 23.
The ET7 sedan delivered 207 units in May, accounting for 0.89 percent of Nio Inc's monthly deliveries. Deliveries for the month decreased by 81.15 percent year-on-year and down by 50.95 percent compared to April.
Nio also delivered 94 units of the EC7 coupe SUV and 3 units of the ES7 SUV in May.
