Nio April deliveries breakdown: ES8 dominates with 44% contribution

The April deliveries breakdown for Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) highlights the continued overwhelming dominance of the ES8 large electric SUV (sport utility vehicle).

The flagship model delivered 13,028 units last month, contributing 44.38% of the company's total deliveries for the month, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) published by several local auto websites.

When announcing its monthly delivery figures earlier this month, Nio mentioned that the third-generation ES8 delivered 13,020 units in April, though that figure actually represented retail sales. Delivery figures include both retail and exports.

Overall, Nio Inc delivered a total of 29,356 vehicles in April, achieving a year-on-year increase of 22.83 percent, but down 17.27% from March.

Within the main Nio brand lineup, the performance of other models was relatively weak, even for best-selling models from previous years such as the ET5 Touring and ES6 SUV.

The Nio ET5 Touring and Nio ES6 delivered 2,416 and 2,004 units in April, respectively. The two models accounted for 8.23% and 6.83% of Nio Inc's monthly deliveries, respectively, and both recorded significant year-on-year declines.

The Nio ET5 sedan and Nio EC6 coupe SUV delivered 810 and 613 units, respectively.

The family-oriented Onvo brand provided important sales support in April.

Among them, the Onvo L60 mid-size SUV delivered 3,284 units, accounting for 11.19% of total deliveries.

The Onvo L90 large SUV delivered 2,068 units, accounting for 7.04% of total Nio Inc deliveries.

In addition, the Firefly EV, the sole model under the Firefly brand, delivered 4,980 units in April.

This represents a year-on-year surge of more than 20 times, despite an 18.61% drop from the previous month. Firefly began its first deliveries in April 2025.

Nio Inc is accelerating an intensive roll-out of new products to boost sales.

The company began pre-sales of its new flagship SUV, the Nio ES9, in April, with a starting pre-sales price of 528,000 yuan ($77,720).

The 2026 Nio ET5, ET5 Touring, ES6, and EC6, along with the upgraded Firefly EV, officially hit the market in early April with unchanged starting prices.

Nio also recently launched the ES8 Mirrorblack Edition, which has a starting price of 456,800 yuan.

For its sub-brands, pre-sales have also begun for the Onvo L80 large five-seat SUV, with a starting price of 245,800 yuan.

This new model will be officially launched on May 15 and is seen as key to reversing the sales curve.

Nio founder, chairman and CEO William Li expects considerable external pressure in the second quarter, and the company is betting on the Nio ES9 and Onvo L80 as two strategic new models.

He expects these new models to drive a steady rebound in the company's deliveries in May and June.
