Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) delivered 37,705 vehicles in May, setting the company's highest monthly delivery record so far this year.
The strong monthly delivery figure represents a 62.3% increase from a year earlier and a 28.44% sequential growth from April, according to data released on Monday.
May's robust performance brought the Chinese EV maker's total deliveries for the January-May period to 150,526 units, up 68.70% year-on-year.
As of May 31, 2026, Nio Inc's cumulative vehicle deliveries reached 1,148,118 units.
Nio ES8 exceeded 10,000 units again
Looking at specific brand performance, the main Nio brand delivered 20,013 vehicles in May, up 50.81% year-on-year and up 5.20% from April.
In the first five months of the year, the Nio main brand delivered a total of 97,580 vehicles, achieving a 63.04% increase compared to the same period last year.
The performance of the main Nio brand benefited from its solid position in the premium market. The third-generation ES8 large SUV (sport utility vehicle) reached its 110,000th delivery milestone in 245 days.
The model delivered 11,475 units in May and has remained the best-selling large SUV in China priced at 400,000 yuan ($58,998) or more for five consecutive months, according to Nio.
To further boost the main brand's sales, the higher-priced new flagship SUV Nio ES9 was officially launched on May 27, with nationwide deliveries in China starting the following day.
Onvo L80 delivers 5,949 units within 15 days of launch
The mass-market Onvo sub-brand delivered 12,029 vehicles in May, jumping 91.51% year-on-year and surging 124.76% from April.
During the January-May period, Onvo delivered a total of 30,720 vehicles, up 20.65% year-on-year, primarily driven by the launch and delivery of the new model L80.
The Onvo L80 large five-seater SUV was officially launched on May 15 and delivered 5,949 units within just 15 days of its launch, setting a new delivery speed record for the segment, Onvo said.
The Onvo L80, together with the 2026 Onvo L90 SUV which began deliveries on May 9, helped the Onvo brand achieve a monthly delivery of over 10,000 units.
In addition, the new Onvo L60 debuted and opened for pre-sales at the Shenzhen Auto Show on May 29. The model is scheduled to be officially launched on June 11 and is expected to continue driving sales.
Firefly remains steady
The Firefly sub-brand, which focuses on the premium compact car market, delivered 5,663 vehicles in May, up 53.89% year-on-year and 13.71% from April.
In the first five months of the year, Firefly's cumulative deliveries reached 22,226 vehicles. The brand also celebrated its 60,000th delivery milestone in May.
In the premium compact car market, Firefly's market share exceeded 72%, ranking first in the segment for 12 consecutive months, the brand said.
Firefly rolled out a new in-car system in mid-May, which optimizes software algorithms to increase peak electric drive power to 120 kW, enhancing vehicle dynamic performance.
On the software front, Nio announced that a brand-new version of the Nio World Model (NWM) will be fully rolled out to users across multiple systems in June.
The company said that this update will further elevate its intelligent assisted driving experience through the joint optimization of algorithms and engineering.
