CATL's power battery installations reached 29.06 gigawatt-hours (GWh) in April, securing the top spot with a 46.64% market share, according to data released Monday by the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance (CABIA).
The figure represents a 1.1 percentage point increase from 45.54% in March.
BYD ranked second with 10.49 GWh of installations in April, accounting for 16.83% of the total market, though its share slipped by about 1 percentage point from 17.83% in March.
Gotion High-tech outperformed the broader market in April, climbing to third place with 4.05 GWh of installations and a 6.50% share, up 0.53 percentage points from March.
In the ternary power battery segment, CATL recorded 9.53 GWh of installations in April, capturing a massive 82.52% of the national total in this category.

Although they maintained the top spots, both giants saw their LFP market shares decline sequentially, while Gotion High-tech ranked third in the LFP segment with 4.03 GWh and a 7.95% share.
Looking at cumulative data for the first four months of 2026, CATL's share of total market installations reached 47.36%, a significant increase of 4.46 percentage points from the same period last year.
In contrast, BYD's cumulative market share for the first four months stood at 16.81%, dropping 7.73 percentage points year-on-year, reflecting a more challenging market environment for the company.
The broader rebound in China's power battery market in April was largely driven by the industry's steady recovery from seasonal fluctuations in the first quarter.
China's power battery installations totaled 62.4 GWh in April, up 15.2% year-on-year and 10.4% from March.
