Nio Inc's (NYSE: NIO) mass-market sub-brand Onvo turns one year old today, a moment marked by William Li, founder, chairman, and CEO of the electric vehicle (EV) maker, in a letter.

"One year ago, the Onvo brand was officially launched. Onvo is built for high-quality family life," Li said in the letter posted to the Onvo App.

Since deliveries began on September 28, 2024, Onvo's first model, the L60, has had more than 40,000 users, Li noted.

More than 30 Onvo car clubs have been established in China in the past six months, according to Li.

There are already nearly 2,000 Nio battery swap stations available for Onvo, and that number is growing, he said.

Nio currently has 3,312 battery swap stations in China, 986 of which are located along highways, according to Nio's charging map.

The Onvo L90 flagship SUV (sport utility vehicle), which will be officially launched in the third quarter, will be the vehicle of choice for large families, Li said in his letter.

Onvo will celebrate the brand's first anniversary today in Hefei, Anhui province, where two Nio Inc factories are located.

Li and Onvo president Shen Fei drove an L60 from Nio's global headquarters in Shanghai to Hefei last night.

They drove the L60, which is equipped with a 60-kWh standard range battery pack, 467 kilometers to their destination without recharging or battery swapping, Li said on Weibo today.

At 7:30 pm Beijing time today, Li and Shen will host a live video broadcast on Onvo's official social media accounts.

Nio officially launched the Onvo sub-brand on May 15, 2024, and began pre-sales of the L60.

Onvo launched the L60 on September 19, 2024, and deliveries of the five-seat mid-size SUV began on September 28.

Nio Inc originally had high hopes for the L60, but the model's less-than-expected performance forced the company to integrate Onvo's separate sales teams with the Nio brand over the past few months.

On April 2, Onvo's first president, Alan Ai, announced his resignation and his role was replaced by Shen.

Nio Inc delivered 23,900 vehicles in April. The Onvo brand was at 4,400 vehicles, down 8.71 percent from 4,820 in March.

Onvo delivered 19,181 vehicles in January-April, with cumulative deliveries through the end of April at 39,942, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
