- The coupe, internally codenamed E29, has a sporty overall exterior style.
- It's expected to target the performance- and style-conscious group, and the official name is likely to be P7 Ultra.
An Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) designer has previewed a new coupe, hinting that the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker will further enhance its sedan lineup, confirming a previous CnEVPost report.
Xpeng's head of creative design, Rafik Ferrag, shared a video on Instagram overnight showing the silhouette of the new coupe.
The overall exterior of the model is sportier, as opposed to the family-oriented focus of the existing Xpeng models.
Its front and rear design is similar to Xpeng's P7+ mid to large-size sedan launched in November 2024, but with an additional spoiler for enhanced aerodynamics.
"How time flies. It was back in 2018, after joining XPENG, I designed my first car for the brand: the XPENG P7," Ferrag wrote.
"Now, six years later, I'm honored to introduce the latest XPENG model I've had the privilege to design," he said.
This time, Xpeng has pushed boundaries with innovative, original aesthetics, breaking free from the industry's conventional and outdated norms to set a new standard in futuristic design, according to Ferrag.
"With this car, you'll realize the future is closer than you imagine…A stunning, stylish coupe. Stay tuned till its debut!" He added.
Ferrag joined Xpeng in August 2017, and before that he worked as a designer at Citroen and Honda.
He didn't mention any more information about the new model, but CnEVPost had learnt that the new coupe's internal code name is E29.
Xpeng's sedans currently on sale are the Mona M03, P7+ and P7i, with the Mona M03 and P7+ being the main sellers.
The company's first sedan is the P7, with deliveries starting in May 2020. The P7's sleek exterior design has seen it do well since its launch.
In March 2023, Xpeng launched the P7i sedan as the successor to the P7. The P7+ is an all-new model and not a facelift to the P7 lineup.
These current Xpeng sedans do not emphasize performance, but rather target the family car market where there is a big addressable market.
The new coupe is expected to be the choice of performance- and style-conscious potential customers, with the official name likely to be P7 Ultra.
Xpeng filed a trademark application for P7 Ultra in February, and the status of the trademark is currently pending substantive examination.
In China's EV industry, Ultra is often used as the name of a vehicle with strong powertrain, such as Xiaomi's (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY) 1,548 Ps SU7 Ultra.
Xpeng delivered 35,045 cars in April, the second highest ever, behind December 2024's 36,695 units, according to figures it announced on May 1.
The Mona M03 delivered 14,210 cars in April, contributing 40.55 percent of Xpeng's monthly deliveries, while the P7+ delivered 7,392 units, contributing 21.09 percent, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
