Nio's NOP+ is subscription-based, and Xpeng's XNGP is only available on select models and is free.

There were rumors over the weekend that Tesla FSD would be running in Shanghai on a pilot basis, but this was denied.

While the overall trend is for FSD to enter China, there are still two major issues before it becomes a reality -- data collection eligibility and supercomputing centers, according to CITIC Securities.

Shanghai will further deepen its cooperation with Tesla to promote the EV maker's businesses including self-driving and robotics in the city, a local official said.

Nio said that Nio Pilot's take rate exceeded 80 percent. Xpeng said its assisted driving software Xpilot 3.0 had a 25 percent penetration rate.

Autopilot requires a subscription system rather than a one-time buyout, otherwise, users will be hindered by the high price, Qin said.

Tesla opened the EAP option in China on February 5 at a price of RMB 32,000 ($4,943), half the price of FSD in China.
