Shanghai's Nanhui New Town is facilitating 10 Tesla vehicles for a FSD (Full Self-Driving) pilot, local media outlet SH Observer quoted an official as saying.

Tesla will be able to let its employees test its FSD internally on public roads once it successfully registers it with Chinese authorities, and then offer it as an upgrade to Chinese users in the coming months, according to Reuters.

The Chinese government will likely support Tesla's local testing of robotaxi, but did not immediately approve its widespread use of FSD features, according to local media.

Tesla has great autonomous driving technology and brand, and only with the entry of more good products and technology can the whole market and customers have a better experience, Xpeng CEO said.

Tesla is set to clear a key hurdle to launching advanced assisted driving features in China by partnering with Baidu on mapping and navigation features, Bloomberg reported.

This is expected to pave the way for the lifting of access restrictions on Tesla vehicles in some areas and the launch of the US EV maker's FSD in China.

"It may be possible very soon," Musk said today on the X platform in response to a user's question about when FSD would enter China.

Tesla is moving forward with making FSD available in China, but there's no exact information as to when that will happen, local media quoted a company insider as saying.

Tesla plans to form a local operations team of around 20 people initially to bring FSD to the Chinese market, according to local media.
