The popularity of DM-i technology caught BYD off guard, and delays in order deliveries have put the company under pressure. Now, to boost production capacity, BYD is building a new production line.

"The company currently has no such plan, there is demand from the market and consumers, and demand from partner dealers," China News Service quoted BYD as saying in response on Thursday.

BYD, the Chinese new energy vehicle manufacturer backed by US billionaire Warren Buffett, announced on Tuesday that its new all-electric EA1 car is officially named "Dolphin".

BYD said it will officially announce the name on Tuesday, and more information can probably be expected.

BYD Semiconductor said this is due to the rising cost of products due to tight upstream production capacity and upward price adjustments from suppliers.

The new vehicle, previously unveiled at the 2020 Shanghai auto show, had been named EA1 and is based on the BYD e-platform 3.0.

The bus will operate between Komárom, where BYD's Hungarian plant is located, and Komárno, Slovakia, and is the first-ever all-electric bus to operate across the border in both countries.

Whether it's styling technology, or core new energy vehicle technologies such as batteries, motors, and electric controls, China's local EVs are already ahead of joint venture brands, Wang said.

BYD Chairman and President Wang Chuanfu has clarified the comments about Xiaomi after they sparked widespread discussion.
