BYD will sell cars in Japan through a dealer network rather than directly operated stores, because the former is the way Japanese consumers are most familiar with, an executive said.

Xiaomi Auto's first car will offer two spec options, with the lower model using BYD batteries and the higher model using CATL's batteries, according to local media.

BYD has both the spirit of science and craftsmanship and if the two are combined, it can become an ace, said Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.

This is one of the new overseas markets that BYD has intensively announced in the last month that it has entered. Its local counterpart, Nio, will also enter Denmark this year.

BYD has previously brought the Atto 3 to several markets including Australia, Singapore, Japan and Costa Rica.

BYD plans to invest RMB 28.5 billion ($4.2 billion) in a power battery base as well as a mining project in Yichun.

The BYD Seagull will be smaller than the Dolphin and is expected to have a starting price of less than 100,000 yuan ($15,000), according to local media.

The Model Y is powered by BYD batteries with a capacity of 55-kilowatt hours and a range of 440 kilometers, according to a German media report.

CATL continued to rank first in July with a 47.19 percent share, but down from 49.6 percent in June. BYD's share was 25.23 percent, its second highest on record.

BYD has built a green transportation system through NEVs and rail transit, with the use of NEVs in the park now reaching 100 percent.
