Tesla China recorded strong annual growth in its April wholesale volume, though sales pulled back compared to March.

Tesla China's wholesale volume came in at 79,478 vehicles in April, representing a 35.96% increase from a year earlier, but a 7.23% decline from March, according to data released Thursday by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

Tesla's month-on-month decline contrasted with the trend in China's broader new energy vehicle (NEV) market. The estimated wholesale volume of passenger NEVs in China was 1.22 million units in April, up 7% both year-on-year and month-on-month.

Despite the slowing momentum in April, Tesla maintained solid growth in the first four months of the year. During the January-April period, its total wholesale volume stood at 292,876 vehicles, up 26.67% year-on-year.

In March, Tesla China's wholesale deliveries surged to 85,670 vehicles as the Chinese auto market recovered from the seasonal lull.

The robust March performance pushed Tesla's first-quarter wholesale deliveries to 213,398 units. This represented a 23.53% increase from a year earlier, demonstrating the resilience of its Chinese operations.

Tesla's wholesale volume data includes both cars sold in the domestic Chinese market and vehicles exported to overseas markets from its Shanghai plant.

Specific data regarding Tesla's domestic deliveries and exports from the Shanghai plant in April are expected to be released by the CPCA later this month.
