Leapmotor is expected to debut the A05 electric hatchback in May and officially launch the model in June, local media Auto Home reported Thursday.

The new EV is the second model in Leapmotor's A-series lineup following the A10, and has already completed regulatory filings.

Leapmotor A05 measures 4,200 millimeters in length and has a wheelbase of 2,605 mm, according to its filing information.

Once officially launched, the model will compete directly with popular compact EVs such as the BYD Dolphin and Geely Xingyuan.

The latest product launch plan is designed to support the company's aggressive goal of delivering 1 million vehicles in 2026.

The Leapmotor A05 offers two drive motor options of 70 kilowatts and 90 kW, and is equipped with battery packs from various suppliers including Gotion High-tech.

The compact vehicle, aimed at the budget segment, will offer potential consumers two different driving ranges of 405 kilometers and 510 km.

It also offers an optional roof-mounted LiDAR, a premium hardware component that was once highly expensive. BYD is also expected to add the sensor to low-cost models such as the Seagull, previous filings showed.

Leapmotor management said during a quarterly earnings call in March that the A05 would be brought to market during the summer window of late June to early July.

The company is also expected to release the D99 electric MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) in the summer.

Leapmotor delivered nearly 600,000 new vehicles in the full year of 2025, a record figure that placed it first in sales among China's emerging EV makers.

The company's management reiterated its ambitious annual sales target of delivering one million vehicles in 2026 during last month's earnings call.

Of this target, about 600,000 units will come from new models and roughly 400,000 from existing ones, according to Leapmotor management.

Leapmotor's overseas sales now account for over 36%, with a target to reach 60%.
