Nio has launched an aftermarket assisted driving indicator light upgrade service for Chinese customers, aiming to improve the experience of vehicles already on the market.

The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker announced on Monday that customers can now pre-order the service, with prices starting at 998 yuan ($146).

Users who pay a 10 yuan deposit can offset 100 yuan from the final payment.

The deposit payment period runs from 10:00 on April 27 to 23:59 on June 9, Beijing time, while the final payment period is from 10:00 on June 10 to 23:59 on July 31.

The core highlight of this upgrade is a dual-color design for a single light: a standard yellow light is used for turn signals, while a smart driving blue light illuminates when the assisted driving mode is activated.

The smart driving blue light can be used in seven scenarios, including NOP+ (Navigate on Pilot Plus) and Self-Automatic Parking Assist with Fusion (S-APA with Fusion), to display the vehicle's operational status to others.

The aftermarket product is primarily compatible with the 2025 and earlier ET5 and ET5 Touring, the 2023 to 2025 ES6 and EC6, and the 2025 ET9 models, the announcement said.

In the fiercely competitive Chinese EV market, a large number of new features are constantly emerging, and the assisted driving indicator light is one of them.

The feature is becoming standard on newly launched models, typically displaying a blue light on the exterior rearview mirrors and taillights when the assisted driving function is activated to alert drivers of other vehicles.

Nio pushed its new Nio World Model (NWM) assisted driving software to users in late January, bringing a significantly optimized smart driving experience.

In the single month of February, the company saw the mileage driven using smart assisted driving surpass 200 million kilometers, a massive 81.5% increase compared to January.

This latest targeted hardware upgrade is expected to improve the satisfaction of owners of older vehicles, helping the company maintain its reputation and sales momentum.

Earlier this month, Nio officially launched the 2026 ES6, EC6, ET5, and ET5 Touring models, which come standard with the new assisted driving indicator lights.

Nio Inc delivered 35,486 vehicles in March, up 135.96% year-on-year and 70.63% from February, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

In the first quarter, the company delivered 83,465 vehicles, up 98.28% year-on-year, despite a 33.12% decline from the fourth quarter of last year.
