Nio Inc's (NYSE: NIO) main brand has reached its 700,000th vehicle delivery, marking a milestone for the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker.

The 700,000th unit of the Nio brand was delivered today in Wuhan, Hubei province in central China, said William Li, Nio's founder, chairman and CEO, on Weibo.

"700,000 units, not a huge number, but it symbolizes the Chinese auto industry's pursuit of better technology and higher-end brands," Li wrote in Chinese.

"We continue to work hard to provide innovative technology, superior products, and a full experience that exceeds expectations," he added.

Nio Inc delivered 23,900 vehicles in April, its second-highest ever, after 31,138 in December last year, according to figures it announced on May 1.

The Nio main brand, which targets the premium segment, delivered 19,269 vehicles in April, up 23.36 percent year-on-year and up 88.56 percent from March.

Sub-brand Onvo delivered 4,400 vehicles in April and another sub-brand, Firefly, delivered 231 vehicles. The first model of Firefly was launched on April 19 and first deliveries started on April 29.

The delivery of the 700,000th vehicle means that the Nio main brand has delivered 2,615 vehicles so far this month, considering that the brand's cumulative deliveries through the end of April stood at 697,385 units, CnEVPost's calculations show.

Cumulative deliveries for Nio Inc, which includes the Nio, Onvo, and Firefly brands, stood at 737,558 vehicles at the end of April.

Founded in November 2014, Nio's first production vehicle is the ES8, which was initially launched at Nio Day 2017 on December 16, 2017, with deliveries beginning in June 2018.

In April 2021, Nio reached the milestone of its 100,000th vehicle delivery. In October 2024, it reached the milestone of its 600,000th production vehicle delivery.

The company launched the first model of its sub-brand Onvo, the L60, in September 2024 and the first model of the Firefly last month.

Earlier today, Nio began accepting pre-orders for the facelifted ES6 SUV (sport utility vehicle), EC6 coupe SUV, and ET5 and ET5 Touring sedans in China.

Show cars of the updated ES6 and EC6 are already available at Nio showrooms, and the official launch will take place on May 16.

Show cars of the updated ET5 and ET5 Touring will be available at Nio showrooms from May 22 and their official launch will be on May 25.

The changes focus on Onvo, which remains a sub-brand but will operate as a first-tier division of Nio.
