The Model 3 contributed 4.78 percent to Tesla's sales in China in September, a new low since October 2021, likely because Chinese customers are waiting for the new Model 3.

The base Model Y sees improved range and acceleration, while the Model Y Long Rang sees improved range.

Model Y production at Giga Shanghai is using one-piece die casting for the rear structure, allowing the component to cost up to 40 percent less.

The Model Y contributed 79.01 percent of Tesla's retail sales in China in August and 71.42 percent in January-August.

The Model Y Long Range's wait time in China has gone from 2-6 weeks previously to 6-8 weeks, after the model's price was cut on August 14.

Tesla's Shanghai factory, which went into operation at the end of 2019, is the first wholly foreign-owned automotive manufacturing project in China.

Tesla sold 93,680 China-made vehicles in June, including exports, the second-highest number on record after November 2022's 100,291 vehicles.

The latest wait times for all three versions of the Tesla Model Y in China are a slightly longer 2-6 weeks, the second change this year since January 9.

From January to May, the Model Y sold 152,461 units at retail in China, up 87.03 percent year-on-year, and was also the best-selling SUV in China during the period.
