BYD (HKEX: 1211) rolled out a paid infotainment screen upgrade service for select owners on Monday, reflecting the company's push to expand aftermarket revenue streams.

Owners of certain models can pay 1,999 yuan ($294) to upgrade their original 12.8-inch screens to larger 15.6-inch displays.

The upgrade service covers several popular models from the Dynasty and Ocean lineups, mainly including the Qin L, Song Plus, and Seal series.

The newly upgraded screens will come with a warranty of one year or 20,000 kilometers, BYD said.

For the Yuan Up model, BYD is offering a separate upgrade option from a 10.1-inch to a 12.8-inch screen priced at 1,320 yuan.

The introduction of this value-added service comes as BYD faces financial pressure from sluggish domestic demand and a fierce price war.

The company's net profit for the first quarter of this year plunged 55.38% to 4.09 billion yuan.

Although new energy vehicle (NEV) sales in April rebounded 6.96% month-on-month to 321,123 units, this marked the eighth consecutive month of year-on-year decline.

Cumulative sales for the first four months of the year fell 26.02% year-on-year, highlighting the broad pressure of the auto market's off-season.

To counter domestic market headwinds, BYD is increasingly relying on robust growth in overseas markets to maintain its overall business scale. Its overseas passenger car and pickup truck sales topped 134,000 units in April, surging 70.9% year-on-year to hit a record high.

Facing soaring supply chain hardware costs, BYD recently raised the optional pricing for its advanced driver assistance systems by more than 20%.

Meanwhile, the company is actively launching new models equipped with ultra-fast charging technology and seeking further profit breakthroughs in the premium market.

BYD and Car Inc have reached a 100,000-vehicle procurement agreement to expand the green rental fleet.
