BYD's ultra-luxury sub-brand Yangwang rolled out its most expensive model yet at the Beijing Auto Show, securing the first elite buyer for the limited-edition vehicle.

The production version of the Yangwang U9 Xtreme is priced at more than 20 million yuan ($2.9 million) per unit, making it the most expensive car sold at this year's Beijing Auto Show, Li Yunfei, general manager of BYD's branding and public relations, said in a Weibo post on Wednesday.

The supercar, designed to push the boundaries of speed, is limited to a global run of just 30 units.

Yangwang debuted the production version of the U9 Xtreme on April 24, the opening day of the Beijing Auto Show, featuring a striking black-and-gold exterior and a massive rear wing.

The Yangwang website showcases the U9 Xtreme but does not disclose pricing information.

Prominent Australian entrepreneur Nick Politis became the sole owner of the limited-edition supercar in the Australian market. BYD chairman and president Wang Chuanfu personally delivered the vehicle to him at the auto show, according to a Weibo post by Yangwang.

On September 20, 2025, Yangwang gave the U9 Xtreme its initial debut and began accepting pre-orders for the 30 globally available units.

The U9 Xtreme features an upgraded powertrain, with each of its four motors boasting a peak power of 555 kW, delivering a combined 2,220 kW (2,977 horsepower).

In September 2025, the U9 Xtreme clocked a lap time of 6 minutes and 59.157 seconds at Germany's Nürburgring track, making it the first pure-electric production car to break the seven-minute barrier on the circuit.

Additionally, the electric sports car achieved an officially certified top speed of 496.22 kilometers per hour (308 mph) at the ATP test track in Germany, claiming a world record.

The Yangwang U9 Xtreme is built on the world's first mass-produced 1,200-volt high-voltage platform, crafted through rigorous engineering research and track testing.

The track-level sports car is equipped with a customized battery featuring an ultra-high 30C discharge rate, as well as China's first specially tailored wear-resistant tires capable of withstanding extreme speeds of 500 km/h.

By comparison, the standard Yangwang U9 sports car was officially launched to Chinese consumers in early 2024, with the base model currently starting at 1.8 million yuan.

The green exterior edition commemorates the U9 Xtreme's achievements at Germany's Nürburgring circuit.
