BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has reached the milestone of producing its 1 millionth Seagull compact electric vehicle (EV), marking a significant achievement for the company's most affordable model.
The new energy vehicle (NEV) maker celebrated the occasion at an event today and introduced a new variant for the Seagull, known as the Dolphin Surf in Europe.
The Seagull was first launched in China in April 2023 with a starting price of RMB 73,800 ($10,300), making it BYD's most affordable model.
In August 2024, BYD launched the 2025 Seagull in China. In February this year, BYD rolled out the Seagull Smart Driving Edition, offering three variants with starting prices of RMB 69,800, RMB 75,800, and RMB 85,800.
At today's event, BYD announced a new variant of the Seagull priced at RMB 78,800, featuring a CLTC range of 405 kilometers.
This new variant shares the same range as the highest-priced variant but lacks features such as panoramic imaging, a dashcam, and sentinel mode.
BYD offers financing options for the Seagull, including 0 percent down payment and 0 interest. Consumers can also enjoy up to RMB 20,000 in national trade-in subsidies, as well as up to RMB 4,000 in trade-in subsidies from BYD.
In May, the Seagull was BYD's best-selling single model, despite the Song family models covering BYD's Dynasty and Ocean series having a higher combined sales volume.
The Seagull sold a record 60,131 units in May, contributing 15.72 percent of BYD Group's monthly sales, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
From January to May, the Seagull sold 233,126 units, representing a year-on-year increase of 50.43 percent.
As of the end of May, the Seagull's cumulative sales came in at 992,637 units.
At the end of last month, BYD launched the Seagull in 15 European countries, where it was renamed Dolphin Surf, marking the company's 10th model in Europe.
The Seagull is available in Europe in three price tiers, ranging from 22,990 euros ($26,940) for a 322-kilometer range to 24,990 euros for a 507-kilometer range.
