Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) will officially launch the Max variant of the Mona M03 electric sedan on May 28, after giving it its debut yesterday.
The company announced the date today on Weibo, describing the Mona M03 Max as the first AI smart coupe sedan for young people.
The Mona M03 Max show cars are currently available at Xpeng stores in 63 cities.
Xpeng officially launched the Mona M03 on August 27, 2024, when it announced three variants -- the 515, 620, and 580 Max -- with starting prices of RMB 119,800 ($16,620), RMB 129,800, and RMB 155,800 respectively.
Deliveries of the two less expensive variants of the Mona M03 started at the end of August 2024.
Of the sedan's users, 90 percent are below the age of 35, Xpeng said yesterday.
The Max variant will be equipped with Xpeng's Turing AI assisted driving system, which will result in more powerful and smart driving capabilities.
Xpeng has also equipped the Turing AI system on its more expensive models including the updated G6 and G9 SUVs (sport utility vehicles).
The Mona M03 Max will also have a fully-fledged version of the Tianji cockpit system, resulting in an upgraded experience including voice interaction, Xpeng said yesterday.
The Mona lineup stems from Xpeng's 2023 acquisition of the smart car development business assets of ride-hailing giant Didi.
The company had originally planned to set up Mona as a standalone brand, but later changed its mind and made it a lineup under the Xpeng brand.
The Mona M03 has been a success since its launch and has become Xpeng's best-selling model.
The electric sedan delivered 14,210 vehicles in April, contributing 40.55 percent of Xpeng's monthly deliveries, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
From January to April, the Mona M03 delivered 61,340 vehicles, contributing 47.53 percent of Xpeng's deliveries in the same period.
