- When Xpeng launched the Mona M03 in August 2024, it announced the starting price of the Max variant at RMB 155,800.
- Xpeng previously said that the Mona M03 Max would feature the industry's best autonomous driving technology.
Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) will debut the Max variant of the Mona M03 tomorrow, which is expected to bring stronger smart driving capabilities to the electric sedan.
He Xiaopeng, chairman and CEO of the electric vehicle (EV) maker, said on Weibo today that Xpeng will unbox the Mona M03's Max variant on May 20 with hundreds of Mona M03 lovebirds.
This is the debut of the variant and the start of a new phase for the Xpeng Mona, Mr. He said.
In China, May 20 is celebrated by many as an unofficial Valentine's Day.
The Mona M03 is a special car and many owners have met their partners as a result of buying it, according to Mr. He.
Xpeng's event tomorrow will start at 2:30 pm Beijing time.
Xpeng officially launched the Mona M03 on August 27, 2024, when it announced three variants -- the 515, 620, and 580 Max -- with starting prices of RMB 119,800 ($16,600), RMB 129,800, and RMB 155,800 respectively.
Deliveries of the two less expensive variants of the Mona M03 began in late August 2024.
Xpeng said in August last year that deliveries of the Max variant of the Mona M03 would begin in 2025 after the Chinese New Year holiday. This appears to have been delayed, however.
Speaking at an event on artificial intelligence (AI) on February 12, Mr. He said that Xpeng would launch the Mona M03 Max in May with the industry's top autonomous driving technology.
In the next 10 years, the penetration of high-level smart driving features would increase from 2 percent to 50 percent, and may even reach 80 percent-90 percent, he said at the event.
Xpeng announced on May 1 that it delivered 35,045 vehicles in April, its second highest ever, behind December 2024's 36,695 units.
That's up 273.10 percent year-on-year and up 5.54 percent from March.
The Mona M03, with 14,210 vehicles delivered in April, was the highest delivered Xpeng model, contributing 40.55 percent of monthly deliveries, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
