The weekly data on China's overall auto industry shared by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) continues, although (NASDAQ: LI) has stopped sharing weekly insurance registrations involving specific companies.

Retail sales of passenger new energy vehicles (NEVs) in China totaled 427,000 units in the March 1-16 period, up 41 percent from a year ago and up 63 percent from a month ago, data released today by the CPCA showed.

The sharp increase relative to February 1-16 remains largely due to a low base caused by the Chinese New Year holiday early last month. This year's Chinese New Year holiday was January 28-February 4. Last year the holiday was February 10-17.

The weekly data released by the CPCA and previously shared by Li Auto were among the most important figures for Chinese EV industry watchers tracking the sector.

However, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) released an initiative yesterday calling on "individual companies" to stop publishing weekly sales charts.

Subsequently, Li Auto stopped sharing weekly insurance registration data.
