China's new energy vehicle (NEV) sales continued their weak performance so far this month.

In the April 1-13 period, retail sales of passenger NEVs in China stood at 275,000 units, up 15 percent from the same period last year, but down 17 percent from the same period last month, data released yesterday by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) showed.

So far this year, cumulative retail sales of passenger NEVs in China totaled 2.695 million units, up 34 percent from the same period last year.

Wholesale sales of China's passenger NEVs in the April 1-13 period were 307,000 units, up 25 percent from a year earlier but down 9 percent from the same period last month, according to the CPCA.

So far this year, the cumulative wholesale sales of China's passenger NEVs stood at 3.156 million units, up 41 percent from the same period last year.

From April 1-13, China's retail sales of all passenger vehicles were 515,000 units, up 8 percent compared with the same period last year, but 14 percent lower than the same period last month.

So far this year, cumulative retail sales of all passenger cars in China totaled 5.642 million units, up 6 percent from a year earlier.

This means that China's NEV penetration at retail stood at 53.40 percent from April 1-13 and 47.77 percent year-to-date.

In the first week of April - April 1-6 -- China's average daily passenger car retail sales were 34,918 units, up 2 percent year-on-year, but 14 percent lower than the same period last month.

In the second week of April -- April 7-13 -- average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 43,704 units, up 13 percent year-on-year but 14 percent lower than the same period last month.

During April 1-13, China's wholesale sales of all passenger cars were 577,000 units, up 17 percent year-on-year but down 14 percent from the same period last month.

During April 1-6, average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars in China were 35,406, up 11 percent year-on-year but down 21 percent from the same period last month.

During April 7-13, China's average daily wholesale passenger car sales were 52,131, up 22 percent year-on-year, but down 10 percent in the same period last month.

So far this year, China's passenger car wholesale sales are 6,855,000 units, up 12 percent compared with the same period last year.

Shanghai now allows non-locally registered vehicles to be used to apply for trade-in subsidies of up to RMB 15,000.
