Fang Cheng Bao, a sub-brand of BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY), is one of several brands that have announced vehicle recalls today.
BYD is recalling a total of 6,843 units of its Fang Cheng Bao Bao 5 plug-in hybrid vehicles manufactured between October 16, 2023, and February 1, 2024, starting today, according to a statement on China's State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) website.
Due to manufacturing reasons, the electrical connector bolts inside the integrated dual-motor controller of some vehicles may not be locked properly, according to the statement.
This could lead to loosening and arcing of the bolted connection points during use of the vehicle, which in extreme cases could lead to smoke and fire, posing a safety hazard, the statement said.
BYD will authorize Fang Cheng Bao to replace the integrated dual-motor controller for free for the recalled vehicles to eliminate the safety hazard.
BYD officially launched the Fang Cheng Bao brand on August 16, 2023, and the brand's first model, the Bao 5 off-road SUV, was launched on November 9, 2023, with deliveries beginning at the end of the same month.
On November 12, 2024, Fang Cheng Bao launched the Bao 8, its second model and the first under the BYD umbrella to feature Huawei's driver assistance system.
On December 10, Fang Cheng Bao announced its new Tai series lineup, becoming its second major lineup after the Bao series.
The Tai lineup would include hardcore models for families, with the first model, the Tai 3 midsize SUV, set to go on sale in the first half of 2025, Fang Cheng Bao said at the time.
Fang Cheng Bao delivered a record 11,418 vehicles in December, bringing full-year 2024 deliveries to 56,388, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
