Excluding exports, China's domestic NEV sales were 1,176,000 units in September, surpassing the 1 million mark for the second time after December last year.
China's new energy-vehicle (NEV) sales grew further to a record high last month, as the automotive market enters its busy season.
In September, China's NEV sales reached a record high of 1,287,000 units, surpassing the previous record of 1,191,000 units in December last year, according to data released today by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).
This represents a year-on-year increase of 42.3 percent and a 17 percent increase from August.
CAAM's NEV sales are the wholesale sales of the automaker, including sales in China and exports to overseas markets. NEVs include battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and fuel cell vehicles.
PHEV sales continue to see strong growth, while BEV sales have rebounded.
In September, PHEV sales totaled 511,000 units, marking the fifth consecutive month of record highs, up 84.2 percent year-on-year and up 12.8 percent from August.
BEV sales in September were 775,000 units, setting a new year-to-date high. That' up 23.8 percent year-on-year and up 19.97 percent from August.
All vehicle sales in China were 2,809,000 units in September, down 1.7 percent year-on-year but up 14.5 percent from August.
This means that NEV penetration was 45.8 percent in September, up from 44.8 percent in August.
Excluding exports, domestic NEV sales stood at 1,176,000 units in September, the second time they have exceeded the 1 million-unit mark after 1,080,000 units in December last year. That's up 45.5 percent year-on-year and up 18.8 percent from August.
In September, 539,000 vehicles were exported from China, up 21.4 percent year-on-year and up 5.4 percent from August.
Of these, NEV exports were 111,000 units, up 15.6 percent year-on-year and up 0.9 percent from August.
China exported 89,000 units of BEVs in September, down 3.6 percent year-on-year but up 1.1 percent from August.
PHEV exports were 22,000 units in September, up 490 percent year-on-year but down 0.1 percent from August.
