Zeekr, the premium electric vehicle (EV) subsidiary of Geely Holding Group, will launch an updated Zeekr 001 on February 27, possibly offering lower prices than the older model in a fierce price war.

Zeekr said today that the launch event for the updated Zeekr 001 will begin at 8 pm Beijing Time on February 27, and show cars of the model are currently available in stores.

The company announced that Zhou Guanyu, China's first-ever Formula 1 driver, has become the chief handling officer of the updated Zeekr 001.

The Zeekr 001, Zeekr's first model, was launched on April 17, 2021 and deliveries began in October 2021 and has been Zeekr's main selling model.

The updated Zeekr 001 entered a regulatory filing catalog with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) last month, setting the stage for its launch.

The new Zeekr 001 measures 4,977 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width and 1,545/1,533 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,005 mm, according to its filing page.

For comparison, the older Zeekr 001 has a length, width and height of 4,970 mm, 1,999 mm, 1,560 mm and a wheelbase of 1,560 mm.

The new Zeekr 001's battery is available in lithium ternary and lithium iron phosphate (LFP) options from and Zeekr's subsidiary Jidian.

The new Zeekr 001 supports options for LiDAR, air suspension. LiDAR is not supported on the older model.

Zeekr's update to the 001 comes at a time of intensifying price wars in China's EV industry, with a number of EV makers updating their on-sale models this week to bring prices down significantly.

Separately, Zeekr also said today that the Zeekr 007 sedan saw its 10,000th production vehicle roll off the line.

Zeekr officially launched the Zeekr 007 on December 27 with a starting price of RMB 209,900 ($29,190)

The Zeekr 007 is Zeekr's first model aimed at the mainstream EV market, with its other models -- the Zeekr 001, Zeekr 009, and Zeekr X -- all aimed at niche markets.

Zeekr delivered 12,537 vehicles in January, up 302.34 percent year-on-year but down 6.97 percent from December.

Zeekr's goal for 2024 is to deliver 230,000 vehicles, double from 2023, a company spokesperson previously told CnEVPost.
