Volkswagen has begun pre-sales of the ID.7, a new model in the ID family, in China, at a time when the country's electric vehicle (EV) market is becoming increasingly crowded.

FAW-Volkswagen, a joint venture between Volkswagen and China FAW, announced on November 22 that pre-sales of the ID.7 Vizzion electric sedan have begun in China, with a pre-sale price of RMB 237,777 yuan ($33,260).

The ID.7 is a mid-size sedan and is VW's second global model based on the MEB platform after the ID.4.

The ID.7 Vizzion measures 4,956 mm in length, 1,862 mm in width and 1,537 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,965 mm.

There is only a rear-wheel drive version of the model on pre-sale, powered by a single motor with 150 kW of peak power and 310 Nm of peak torque.

It has a Li-ion ternary battery pack with a capacity of 84.8 kWh and a CLTC range of 642 kilometers.

The cabin of the ID.7 Vizzion houses a 15-inch screen with 2K resolution and supports ID. Mate AI virtual voice assistant.

The model comes with Travel Assist 3.0 assisted driving system that supports features including adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, and front collision avoidance automatic braking.

The ID.7 Vizzion is slightly smaller in size than BYD's (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) Han EV, but larger than Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model 3.

The BYD Han EV measures 4,995 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width and 1,495 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,920 mm, and it's currently priced from RMB 209,800 in China.

The Model 3 measures 4,720 mm in length, 1,848 mm in width and 1,442 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,875 mm. The Tesla sedan is currently priced from RMB 261,400 in China.

Volkswagen's ID series EVs are produced by its two main joint ventures in China.

FAW-Volkswagen sells the ID.series as the ID.4 Crozz and ID.6 Crozz, while SAIC-Volkswagen's ID series is the ID.4 X and ID.6 X, and the ID.3.
