BYD today announced record new energy vehicle (NEV) sales for July and later shared breakdown figures showing how different models performed.

This was up 32.46 percent year-on-year and 20.93 percent from June.

In the January-July period, Song family models sold 310,271 units, up 53.92 percent year-on-year.

The BYD brand's models include the Dynasty and Ocean series, and the Song family models include the Song Pro DM-i and Song Max DM-i from the Dynasty series, and the Song Plus EV and Song Plus DM-i from the Ocean series.

BYD's Dynasty series of Song models sold 18,800 units in July, up 14.26 percent from 16,453 in June.

Its Ocean series of Song models sold 32,458 units in July, up 25.15 percent from 25,935 in June.

BYD launched the Song Pro DM-i Champion Edition on May 25 and the Song Plus Champion Edition on June 19.

BYD's Qin family of models sold 44,695 units in July, up 31.02 percent year-on-year and 1.03 percent from June.

The Qin family was the second best-selling BYD model in July, and the family has previously been BYD's top seller from March through June. Prior to that the Song family models were the top sellers in many months.

On February 10, BYD let the facelifted version of its plug-in hybrid sedan, the Qin Plus DM-i, go on sale with a starting price range of RMB 99,800 ($13,920) to RMB 145,800 yuan.

This is the first time BYD has let the starting price of a model equipped with its DM-i powertrain fall below RMB 100,000.

In the January-July period, the BYD Qin family sold 260,468 units, up 44.02 percent year-on-year.

The BYD Dolphin sold 31,950 units in July, the third highest-selling BYD model in July, up 52.11 percent year-on-year and 2.60 percent from June.

In the January-July period, the BYD Dolphin sold 194,798, up 144.97 percent year-on-year.

The BYD Yuan family of models sold 31,456 units in July, up 41.87 percent year-on-year but down 7.31 percent from June.

In the January-July period, BYD Yuan family models sold 237,609 units, up 135.64 percent year-on-year.

The BYD Seagull sold 28,001 units in July, up 21.72 percent from June.

The BYD Seagull was launched on April 26 at a starting price of RMB 73,800, making it the cheapest BYD model. The model sold 66,806 units from April to July.

BYD's flagship sedan Han sold 25,237 units in July, down 2.37 percent year-on-year but up 8.75 percent from June.

In the January-July period, 123,072 Han family models were sold, down 1.47 percent from 123,072 in the same period last year.

BYD's flagship SUV Tang family models sold 12,662 units in July, up 7.41 percent year-on-year and basically flat from 12,657 units in June.

In the January-July period, Tang family models sold 82,001 units, up 21.28 percent year-on-year.

BYD Chaser 05 sold 11,994 units in July, up 58.90 percent year-on-year and 17.34 percent from June.

In the January-July period, BYD Chaser 05 sold 51,900 units.

BYD Seal sold 5,650 units in July, down 30.54 percent from June.

Originally launched in China on July 29, 2022, the BYD Seal is a battery electric vehicle (BEV) that is seen as one of the strongest rivals to the Model 3 in China.

Deliveries of the model began last August, and BYD made a revamped version of the Seal available on May 10.

On July 14, BYD rebranded the Chaser 07, which was unveiled on the first day of the Shanghai auto show on April 18, as the Seal DM-i. The model's first production cars rolled off the assembly line on July 19 at BYD's production base in Zhengzhou, Henan province, in central China.

In the January-July period, BYD Seal sold 48,447 units.

The BYD Frigate 07 sold 4,501 units in July, down 44 percent from June. The model goes on sale on December 19, 2022, officially.

In the January-July period, the BYD Frigate 07 sold 52,168 units.

The BYD e2 sold 2,550 units in July, down 28.61 percent from June. The compact NEV was launched on April 6 and had accumulated sales of 12,940 units so far.

BYD sold a record 262,161 NEVs in July, including 261,105 passenger cars, and 1,056 commercial vehicles.

The company's Dynasty series sold 132,850 units in July, essentially unchanged from 132,620 a year ago and up 1.81 percent from June, data monitored by CnEVPost showed.

The BYD Ocean series sold 117,104 units in July, up 295.70 percent from a year ago and up 6.41 percent from June.
