The ET5 and ES7 -- known as the EL7 in Europe -- both earned the highest five-star rating in the latest Euro NCAP safety tests, following the ET7 sedan.

Nio (NYSE: NIO) is targeting the premium segment, which helps it build the safest models.

Following the ET7 sedan, the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker's ET5 sedan and ES7 SUV -- known as the EL7 in overseas markets -- both earned the highest five-star rating in the latest Euro NCAP safety tests.

The ratings were published on the Euro NCAP website today, showing that the ET5 and EL7 are the only two models to have participated in the test this year.

It's worth noting that Euro NCAP has used higher standards for the 2023 rating, such as increased penalties for poor compatibility in adult occupant protection, making it harder for aggressive vehicles to score well.

The Nio ET5 received a five-star rating, with the breakdown scores as follows:

Adult Occupant: 96 percent

Child Occupant: 85 percent

Vulnerable Road Users: 83 percent

Safety Assist: 81 percent

The 2023 assessment is very different from previous years and star ratings should not be directly compared to previous years, the Euro NCAP noted.

However, we still want to share that 's (NASDAQ: TSLA) flagship sedan, the Model S, received a five-star rating last year, with the following scores:

Adult Occupant: 94 percent

Child Occupant: 91 percent

Vulnerable Road Users: 85 percent

Safety Assist: 98 percent
