It's the world's first "native" all-electric luxury MPV, a flagship model based on Geely's SEA architecture, Zeekr said.

There have been several speculations over the past year that Zeekr, Geely's premium electric vehicle (EV) subsidiary, would launch an MPV. Now, the company has finally confirmed it.

Geely's Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) architecture will see a new flagship model, the world's first "native" all-electric luxury MPV, Zeekr said in a Weibo post today.

Zeekr was founded in March 2021. Last April 15, Zeekr's first model, the Zeekr 001, was launched.

Deliveries of the Zeekr 001 began in October last year, with a total of 25,017 units delivered to date, including 4,302 in June, data monitored by CnEVPost shows.

There are not many good MPVs to choose from in the Chinese market, the best known being the Buick GL8 and the Toyota Alphard. There are even fewer new energy MPVs.

The Zeekr 009 is not the first electric MPV in the Chinese market, and comes at a time when car companies are starting to focus more on this segment in the EV era.

Voyah, the premium EV brand of Dongfeng Motor (HKG: 0489), officially launched its MPV, the Voyah Dreamer, in China on May 7.

Voyah offers four versions of the model, with three seven-seat versions starting at RMB 369,900 ($55,490) to RMB 439,900 and one customized version starting at RMB 639,900.

Deliveries of the Voyah Dreamer began on July 16, with a strategically signed order for 6,000 units from a major customer on that day.

BYD's premium brand, Denza, officially announced the launch of the D9 MPV on May 16 and opened it for pre-sale with a starting price of RMB 335,000.

Like the power form used by BYD's existing models, Denza offers two power options for the D9 MPV - a version equipped with BYD's signature DM-i Super Hybrid technology, and an all-electric version.

Pre-orders for the Denza D9 have already exceeded 30,000 units, Zhao Changjiang, general manager of Denza's sales division, said on Weibo on July 19.
