Two days after Huawei debuted its amazing autonomous driving technology, a model equipped with the technology was launched in China.
On April 17, Arcfox, a dedicated EV brand by BAIC, unveiled the highly anticipated Arcfox α-S model with a starting price of RMB 251,900 yuan ($38,600).
It has an 800V high-voltage battery platform with an NEDC range starting at 525 km and a maximum of 708 km. Its flash charging technology is claimed to enable a 10-minute replenishment of 196 km of range.
It has a wheelbase of 2915mm and a wind resistance coefficient of 0.25. The regular version of the model is two-wheel drive, with a maximum power of 160kW and a 0-100km acceleration time of 7.7 seconds.
Compared to the regular model, the most interesting aspect of the car is its version with "Huawei Inside".
Huawei announced the "Huawei Inside" earlier this week, saying that smart cars with the logo will be available in the fourth quarter of this year.
Huawei's technology will enable vehicles to drive themselves for 1,000 kilometers in urban areas without intervention, and the experience will be "much better than Tesla," according to Huawei's Chairman-in-Office Xu Zhijun.
With the release of the Arcfox α-S "Huawei Inside" version, Huawei's technology is available in production models for the first time.
This version starts at RMB 388,900 and the premium version is priced at RMB 429,900. They are expected to be delivered in November and December this year.
The model is equipped with an intelligent advanced autonomous driving system with 400TOPs of computing power.
The body is equipped with 3 LIDAR, 6 millimeter-wave radar, 12 ultrasonic radar, 9 ADS cameras, and 4 surround-view cameras.
The lower-priced version of this enables highway autonomous driving, and the highest-spec version has higher-order autonomous driving and valet parking capabilities in urban areas.
This capability has been demonstrated in a video that went viral on April 16.
The video shows the field test vehicle driving relatively smoothly and achieving urban commuter-free autonomous driving in situations such as starting and stopping at traffic lights, making unprotected left turns, avoiding vehicles at intersections, yielding to pedestrians, and changing lanes.
The video shows a vehicle equipped with a safety officer driving smoothly across a road where pedestrians, electric vehicles, and cars are crossing back and forth.
In addition to automatically detecting pedestrian vehicles in front of the vehicle and emitting a warning tone to the interior, the vehicle is also alerted by a red warning image on the center console.
On a road full of parked cars on both sides, the car will automatically avoid vehicles in the opposite direction, and will also leave some space for non-motorized vehicles and pedestrians on the right when meeting.
Back to Arcfox, the brand will open 30 stores by the end of April 2021 and 100 directly operated stores within the year, reaching a target of 150 stores by the end of 2022.
In addition, Arcfox is developing a fourth-generation super electric drive system with a range of up to 1,000 kilometers.
