During the January 1-21 period, Li Auto was at 18,700, Nio at 6,600, Xpeng at 4,600, Tesla at 22,400 and BYD at 125,100 units.

China's NEV sales performed even worse at retail last week, leading to a significant drop in sales in the first half of the month compared to the same period in December.

In the January 1-14 period, Nio was 4,700, Xpeng 2,800, Li Auto 11,000 and Tesla 10,600 units.

In the first week of January, China's NEV retail sales were down 12 percent from the same period in December, while NEV wholesale sales were down 35 percent.

Insurance registrations for major EV makers in China fell significantly last week, as the beginning of the year and the start of the month are typically low for deliveries.

In December, 17,700 Nio vehicles were registered for insurance in China, 17,300 for Xpeng and 76,000 for Tesla.

China's passenger NEV retail sales stood at 7.375 million units so far this year, up 34 percent year-on-year.

Between December 1 and December 24, Nio was at 12,000 units, Xpeng at 12,500, Li Auto at 36,400, Tesla at 60,200 and BYD at 180,000 units.

China's retail penetration of NEVs was 38.7 percent in the December 1-17 period, and 35.3 percent year-to-date.

Between December 1 and December 17, Nio was 7,900, Xpeng 8,700, Li Auto 24,300, Tesla 41,700, BYD 116,100.
