China's retail sales of passenger new energy vehicles (NEVs) were 365,000 units from December 1 to December 17, up 15 percent from a year earlier and up 4 percent from the same period last month, according to data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

So far this year, retail sales of passenger NEVs in China amounted to 7.173 million units, up 34 percent year-on-year.

From December 1 to December 17, China's wholesale sales of passenger NEVs were 404,000 units, up 23 percent from the same period last year and up 6 percent from the same period in November, according to the CPCA.

So far this year, China's passenger NEV wholesale sales were 8.177 million units, up 34 percent from a year earlier.

From December 1 to December 17, China's retail sales of all passenger vehicles stood at 942,000 units, up 4 percent compared with the same period last year and up 11 percent from the same period last month, the CPCA said.

So far this year, retail sales of passenger cars in China are up 5 percent to 20.287 million units.

That means China's NEV penetration at retail was 38.7 percent in December 1-17, and 35.3 percent so far this year.

In the first week of December -- December 1-10 -- average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 47,485, up 7 percent from a year ago and up 8 percent from the same period last month, according to the CPCA. The figure was slightly revised upward from the 47,475 units announced by the CPCA last week.

In the second week of December -- December 11-17 -- average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 66,770, up 2 percent from a year earlier and up 14 percent from the same period last month.

From December 1-17, China's passenger car wholesale sales amounted to 964,000 units, up 13 percent from the same period last year and up 4 percent from the same period last month. Cumulative year-to-date wholesale sales amounted to 23.78 million units, an increase of 9 percent from the same period last year.

In the first week of December, China's passenger car wholesale sales averaged 45,682 units per day, up 9 percent from a year ago while down 4 percent from a month ago, according to the CPCA. The figure was revised down slightly from the 45,690 units reported last week.

In the second week of December, average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars in China were 72,522 units, up 17 percent from a year earlier and up 13 percent from a month earlier.
