Tesla sold 63,456 vehicles in China in August, the highest of the year, up 37.27 percent from July, though down 1.91 percent year-on-year.

Tesla plans to launch FSD in China and Europe in the first quarter of 2025, pending regulatory approval. This is a slight delay from previous plans.

Tesla plans to produce a 6-seat version of the Model Y in China starting in late 2025, having asked suppliers to prepare for double-digit growth in Model Y production at its Shanghai plant, according to Reuters.

Tesla China sold 86,697 vehicles in August, including those sold in China and those exported to overseas markets, up 16.97 percent from July and up 3.02 percent year-on-year.

Some of the vehicles included in the recall may have a roof trim panel with insufficient primer, which in extreme cases can come off the vehicle.

The two updated Model Ys include a 5-seat version codenamed Juniper, which is expected to begin deliveries in the first quarter of next year. The other is a 7-seat version expected to begin deliveries in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Tesla plans to launch a seven-seat version of the Model Y in China and Europe in October, with production of the model already underway at Giga Shanghai, according to local media.

Tesla had approached Ottawa to lower tariffs on its cars ahead of Canada's announcement this week of a 100 percent tariff on China-made EVs, Reuters reported.

BYD, Geely, and SAIC all face slightly lower tariff rates than previously, while Tesla's 9 percent is well below the 20.8 percent indicated last month.

The Model Y ranked first among BEV models in China with wholesale sales of 298,384 units in January-July 2024, with the BYD Seagull coming in second with 227,2934 units.
