Retail sales of NEVs in China reached a record high in October, but NEV penetration declined slightly due to faster growth in gasoline vehicle sales.

Tesla sold 40,485 vehicles in China in October, the lowest since April, as exports from its Shanghai factory rose 72.41 percent from September.

China's NEV penetration at retail stood at 54.38 percent in October and 46.92 percent year-to-date, according to preliminary CPCA data.

CATL and BYD continued to hold the top two positions as the world's largest battery makers in the January-September period, with the former seeing a slight decrease in share and the latter remaining unchanged.

As of now, all provinces in China have implemented the car replacement subsidy policy and brought a new wave of growth momentum to the automative market, the CPCA said.

Tesla sold fewer China-made vehicles last month, ending a previous three-month streak of sequential gains.

Song family models continued to rank as the top-selling BYD models with record sales of 114,938 vehicles in October.

BYD sold 189,614 passenger BEVs in October, up 14.57 percent year-on-year, and 310,912 PHEVs, the eighth consecutive record high since March, up 129.30 percent year-on-year.

The Nio main brand delivered 16,657 vehicles in October, down 18.14 percent from September. Onvo delivered 4,319 vehicles in October, up 419.11 percent from September.

In the January-October period, Li Auto delivered 393,255 vehicles, up 38.16 percent year-on-year.
