In June, price wars in China's auto market cooled down, spurring consumer sentiment among groups that had been on the sidelines, the CPCA said.

China's NEV retail penetration was 49.12 percent for June 1-23, and 41.36 percent year-to-date.

In the January-May period, BYD was No. 1 in China's NEV market with a 34.0 percent share, while Tesla was No. 3 with 6.7 percent.

China's NEV penetration at retail was a record 47 percent in May, up 14 percentage points from 33 percent a year earlier and up 3.3 percentage points from 43.7 percent in April.

China's NEV penetration at retail stood at 46.88 percent in May and 40.26 percent year-to-date, according to preliminary data from the CPCA.

In May, the start of car trade-in subsidies and the cooling of price wars have stimulated spending among groups that were previously on the sidelines, the CPCA said.
