China's NEV penetration at retail stood at 52.0 percent in May 1-18 and 48.8 percent year-to-date.

China's cumulative retail sales of passenger NEVs so far this year stood at 3.618 million units, up 35 percent year-on-year.

Retail sales of all passenger vehicles in China totaled 1.391 million units in the April 1-27 period, up 10 percent year-on-year but down 10 percent from the same period last month.

Dramatic changes in the external environment, especially additional tariffs that exceeded expectations, have taken a toll on consumer sentiment, the CPCA said.

China NEV retail sales were lower at the beginning of the month compared to the same period last month, partly due to a public holiday.

China's NEV retail penetration rate was 53.90 percent in March 1-23, and 47.30 percent year to date.

Cumulative retail sales of passenger NEVs in China so far this year totaled 1.853 million units, up 36 percent year-on-year.

The significant increase relative to February 1-9 was largely due to a low base caused by the Chinese New Year holiday early last month.

China's retail sales of all passenger vehicles in the February 1-23 period were 924,000 units, down 30 percent from the same period last month.

China's NEV retail sales improved last week, significantly narrowing the month-to-date decline.
